20-plus Feral Cat Colonies Closed

Tuolumne Spay & Neuter has successfully "shut down" over 20 feral cat colonies across Tuolumne County through its Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. In these communities, all cats have been humanely trapped, neutered, and returned to their environments, effectively ending the cycle of reproduction. This approach not only stabilizes the population in these areas but also improves the cats' health and reduces the impact on local wildlife. By committing to this proactive TNR strategy, Tuolumne Spay & Neuter continues to make a lasting difference in managing feral cat populations countywide.

Even a few dollars can help us keep up the momentum—please consider donating!

Every year the California State Railroad Museum Foundation holds its largest fundraiser, the popular Polar Express Train Ride. People come from all over to ride the decorated trains and celebrate the seasonal event from just before Thanksgiving to the Saturday before Christmas. The Foundation shares the wealth by inviting local nonprofits to take on the parking organization to earn money for their group. This year Tuolumne Spay and Neuter (TSN) is assigned November 22 and December 20, both Friday nights. We need a few solid and reliable volunteers to help us direct cars into spaces and people to the boarding area. We need folks who:

  • Can commit to showing up at 3PM and stay through about 8PM on the day of the event rain or shine– You can volunteer for one or both nights but the important thing is commitment; no- shows or last minute cancellations will burden the other volunteers

  • Are available for an orientation meeting – I will meet with each volunteer onsite during the month of November to walk the areas and be informed about the operation ahead of time at a time that works for both of us

  • Have a working flashlight and cell phone – A reflective vest is a plus!

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Directing cars to parking spaces – Using a flashlight, volunteers will direct cars first to a parking area and then into parking spaces

  • Assist with late arrivals – Volunteers will need cell phones to communicate to the leader about late arrivals and direct them to the boarding area

  • Have fun! – And know that you are doing a huge kindness to the families that come for the events and to TSN for helping us in our mission
