Containing a Colony

If you’ve been following along, you know we’re trying to get a large feral cat colony under control. This is our first major project while we work on finding a venue for our spay and neuter clinics. We’ve made some great progress this week!

We’ve managed to trap and spay or neuter 8 adult cats! This is major progress. These cats are safe and comfortable in their colony, so they were released back to the same location to continue their lives without adding more babies to the mix. This colony is being fed and cared for by a wonderful community member, so as long as we can cap the population where it is, all of these cats can remain where they are happiest.

We also trapped these two beautiful kittens from the same colony. They have eye infections, as you can see in their photo, but this can be treated easily with an ointment. Since they are young enough to be socialized, they have gone to a foster home to be nurtured into pets. They will be healthy, snipped, and off to their furever homes in the next few weeks!

We still have more snips to complete this week in order to finish with this colony. This is where we need your help. Each neuter for a male is $105, and each spay for a female is $125. This adds up in a hurry! If you would like to help us cover this, we would greatly appreciate any donation you can contribute.

A big thank you to two donors who paid for spays already this week! You are making a huge difference in the lives of cats and humans in our community.
